Alistair Smith

Alistair Smith has been described as "the UK's leading trainer in modern learning methods".  He is a trainer, author and consultant. An outstanding presenter and motivational speaker, Alistair travels throughout the world delivering training based on his best-selling books and interactive programmes.

 

After both a chequered school experience and a career which included working in construction, quarrying, museums and the Prison’s Service, Alistair taught in schools in England. He worked with the Advisory Service in a large Local Education Authority before setting up his company ALITE.  More recently, he has written award winning books, featured on radio and television programmes, and spoken to over 100,000 educators, parents and developers at conferences throughout the UK and abroad. 

 

Alistair’s highly respected award winning Accelerated Learning model has been used in classrooms as a means of raising pupil motivation and achievement. His 2001 book The Brain's Behind It, was one of the first in the UK to look at translating brain research for teachers.


Alistair originated and co-authored the L2 suite of products. L2 is an innovative Learning to Learn approach designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes of the outstanding learner. Over half a million students now have access to this approach.

 

Alistair Smith also has a dual career in professional sport. He is the designated learning consultant to the English Football Association where, on behalf of their 50,000 students, he helps modernise training and coaching provision.  He has delivered on the FA’s prestigious UEFA Pro Licence course since its inception, working with over one hundred managers at the top levels of the professional game. He also works with European managers and coaches on behalf of UEFA.

Sir John Jones

John Jones has been a Headteacher of three secondary schools over a period of 17 years. He was a Non-Executive Director on the board of Aintree Hospitals Trust and has been a Governor of two schools on Merseyside. He was a member of the Government’s Policy Action Team for Neighbourhood Renewal at the Social Exclusion Unit. He was also a member of the Headteachers’ National Focus Group on Truancy and Exclusion and the Excellence in Cities Project at the DfES. John was a member of the Leadership and Development Unit sponsored by the National College for School Leadership. He works part-time at the Centre for Educational Leadership at Manchester University delivering a range of programmes and was a CEL member on the National Remodelling Team. He teaches on the Master’s Course at Liverpool University specialising on the leadership of change and is an Associate Director of Alite Ltd. John received a Knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List, 2003, for services to education.
