The Presenter-Developer Continuum assumes that as a professional developing others you will have different roles. On occasion you may be coaching an individual for a morning, whilst next day you are doing a 40 minute presentation to 500 people. There are different skills involved at each of these extremes of the continuum.

1. Presenter
A time defined input of information to a large, mixed group.

2. Authenticator
An expert input of information to a homogenous group.

3. Deliverer
Taking a group through a mix of activities and inputs to a pre-determined end.

4. Trainer
Taking groups through a mix of activities and inputs against researched needs

5. Coach
Individual and tutor agree a performance focus, continually review the focus and through dialogue progress towards improvement

6. Facilitator
A loosely structured, open programme of development activities and inputs with an emphasis on the processes used and group development through reflection.

7. Developer
Group or individual needs are identified as part of a long-term relationship. A flexible programme is then put into place and the developer manages this programme

For each of the above roles there are sets of skills which we believe can be developed. To identify which skills, we apply what we call our domains. The Alite domains are:

1. Personal resourcefulness
How to adapt to and accommodate unforeseen
circumstances and be positive and capable as you do so.

2. Assessing training environments
Understanding how physical variables will influence your training.

3. Presentation techniques and skills
Communicating information effectively utilising the most appropriate medium.

4. Identifying training and development needs
How to discern the training and development needs of a client organisation.

5. Planning development programmes
Planning appropriate and comprehensive development programmes to meet the agreed needs of clients.

6. Designing training activities
Designing appropriate training activities as part of a wider development programmes.

7. Facilitating groups
Managing groups of different sizes and facilitating them as learning entities.

8. Coaching individuals
How to use a range of interpersonal, questioning and elicitation strategies to coach individuals towards improved performance

Each of the skill domains can be applied to any of the roles.
